Feedback gevenThe second time I experienced this restaurant and must say that both times were exceptional. great staff and menu very clever and really an experience.
Martin wishart at hole lomond is a wonderful room and a fantastic total grace experience. we have eaten there several times in the last two years and the congenial service and authentic desire to please their guests is refreshing and appreciated. eating is excellent, creatiw, tasteful and thoughtful. respectful of origin and seasonality of their products and game. it is 'formal' in service, but not stuffy. a large roll for the blasé 'gastro-casual', which is so common in better restaurants nowadays. they are earned by their Michelin star, more than most other restaurants with this award in Scotland today.
After we have enjoyed all MW restaurants, we can say that they are the best of Scottish cooking and gracious service. a thoughtful and well-designed menu with personalized wine pairing ensured a wonderful evening. the room can seem somewhat formal, but the service is friendly and competent. good work for the MW team and we will see them again on our next trip to Scotland!
We chose the 6 course taster lunch on a Saturday. It isn't cheap so be prepared to spend £80 per head plus £15 per head for cheese but having been in many Michelin star restaurants, this lunch was worth every penny. The amuse bouche were lovely, the courses were well thought out and executed to perfection. Although small portions as expected, we were completely full for the rest of the day. The staff are friendly but very professional. It is always a hard balance between friendly and professional but the waiting staff managed it perfectly. Overall our lunch was over £200 and worth every penny, however don't be put off by the price as they have a wonderful set menu with 2 choices for starters, main and dessert for £32. Looking at other tables, the standard of this food was exceptional. The restaurant is slightly noisy when the seaplane takes off for trips over Loch Lomond but to be honest that just added to the atmosphere of a wonderful setting. Lovely views if you get a table near the window.
As was expected, everything was immense. You get what you pay for. We had the 6 course tasting menu and were absolutely stuffed when they give 2 canapes, an amuse bouche, 5 courses then a pre desert before the final course and then Petit fours. All the staff were knowledgeable about the immaculate food and the sommeliers took the time to explain the wines and pairings. The worst bit was having to leave.
