A series of traditional Tyrolean dishes and desserts that are both large and tasteful. All one of the lowest mountain prices in Europe. We were treated with an impromptu performance when we were able to suddenly hear piano accordion music during our last visit in January. Table by table, people dared to find the son (and excellent part time waiter) his homework aka music practice. Not yet in high school, his skills with the accordion saw that every person left the dining room and walk along the corridor to enjoy the performance. A true actor who started the listener! Did I mention he's just two digits? After almost half an hour he announced that he needed a break and then asked some of the more inquisitive diners if they could pick up the piano accordion. Yes, he answered. If you have never picked up (or tried to pick up) a large piano accordion, then you can be well shocked how hard they are. Our appreciation of his performance grew even more. An additional bonus, if you feel so inclined, is that you are easy to go / drop out of the restaurant also with snow on the street, so obviously there is no reason why you do not have that extra dessert exists?
Perched a few hundred metres up the side of the mountain, Zirmalm provides you with much more than just great food. We've gone to eat there on every visit to Alpbach and have never been disappointed. A range of traditional Tyrolean meals and desserts that are both generous in size and flavour. All at what must rank as amongst the lowest on-mountain prices in Europe. We were treated to an impromptu performance when on our latest visit in January all of a sudden we could hear piano accordion music. Table by table, people ventured into the hallway to find the son (and excellent part time waiter) doing his homework - aka music practice. Not yet in high school, his skill with the accordion saw every person leave the dining room and line up along the hall way to enjoy the performance. A true performer - he started taking requests from the audience! Did I mention he is only just into double digits? After nearly half an hour he announced he needed a rest and then some of the more inquisitive diners asked if they could pick up the piano accordion. Yes he answered. If you have never picked up (or tried to pick up) a grand Piano Accordion then you may well be shocked at how heavy they are. Our appreciation of his performance grew even more. An added bonus, if you feel so inclined, is that you can easily walk to/from the restaurant even with snow falling on the road - so there is obviously no reason why you cannot have that extra dessert is there?
