The food was terrible, possibly the worst place I have ever been to. The staff were nice, but the hot food should never have been allowed to be served in the way it was. I don't understand how people can say they like this cafe, I was very disappointed. I do not recommend it.
Amazing service and very nice workers. I had a hot chocolate what was very nice and a cherry scone what was lovely. I really enjoyed it and I would come again happily.
Always a fantastic welcome, weather busy or not.The food is irrestable, so I choose here for my weekly treat. We cannot wait till we are allowed to sit in to dine,as the ambiance is a beautiful place to be.We can't recommend this Cafe food enough.Bangor
The newly built Gatelodge cafe sits just inside the main entrance of Ards Hospital, on the left. a brand new enterprise staffed predominantly by people with learning disability. I had an hour to kill between appointments and thought I'd go there for a light lunch. It was my first visit and I was looking forward to seeing what was on offer. On reaching the main entrance, as a wheelchair user I was disappointed that the door didn't open by means of a button press outside, I had to lean forward to attempt to push it open but it was not possible. Luckily there was a young lady at the front desk who rushed forward to help. So in I went to the seating area, very bright and airy, seating for perhaps 30 to 40. A little cramped possibly. I chose a seat opposite the food and kitchen and I glanced through the concise menu, enough on it to choose from. I chose a beef and onion sausage roll with salad and coleslaw, and a cup of tea. The server took my order, he checked with me a couple of times as he wrote it down, then took my order to the kitchen. That part was being run by a lady who was managing the orders in and food out. In a short time, my tea arrived followed closely by a small plate with one sausage roll, no salad and coleslaw. I attracted the attention of the manager and explained the problem. The plate was removed and one minute later a large plate with a sausage roll with salad and coleslaw. was set in front of me with an apology, fair enough considering the circumstances. The sausage roll was huge, hot and delicious and the salad and coleslaw was crunchy and fresh. Whilst I was eating, a young server politely checked if all was fine, which it was. I've got to say that the whole experience was top class, I thoroughly enjoyed it. On exiting the café the young lady who let me in was there again to open the door. We agreed that an automatic door should be installed, I really can't believe that it wasn't put in when renovating the building, given the fact that it's in the grounds of a hospital! It's not possible for a wheelchair user to enter or exit without someone to open the door.
