I can't recommend this place very much. The waiter was so attentive and it is a beautiful place. The pisco sours were excellent and the food was wonderful and beautifully presented.
We came relatively early at 6 on a Friday night so there was no excuse for the terrible service. There were 5 waiters and waitresses hanging around talking and we were practically ignored and we were the only ones in the restaurant. I don't expect really great service in most restaurants in Arequipa but I do expect what little service there is to be polite. It was as if we were doing the waiter a favor by turning up. And that's not the worst the food was Dreadful. I ordered the trout and it was soggy breaded and served on top of soggy spicy disgusting stuffing with a few chunks of potatoes in it. The anticuchos were average and some tough and fatty. The highlight was that the drinks were excellent although expensive and they served you a tiny tiny little plate of crispy potatoes for the table. Overall, for 100 soles for two people with only two alcoholic drinks this was definitely not worth the trip. I don't understand all the really positive reviews. But each to his own. I do not recommend this place there are plenty of other better places.
We came here as a group to sample a bit of fancy Arequipeña in a beautiful old building. We sat in the covered courtyard, complete with gas heaters to keep us happy. The cocktail selections are interesting, mostly being modified traditional cocktails, but with pisco rather than gin or rum or whatever. The food selections are not extensive, but are very good! I had the adobo Arequipeña, which was fantastic! They also had some decent entertainment when we were there, singing a mix of traditional and occasionally pop tunes. They asked the audience where we were all from, and played local tunes, though I think they were a little surprised to have an Aussie in the crowd, and unfortunately, didn't know any Men At Work! The service was generally good, but did get slow with drinks when it was busy. My only other complaint would be the scantily clad welcomers that gives an otherwise classy place an air of sleaze. Otherwise brilliant!
La casona del pisco tiene un ambiente y unos tragos increíbles. La música que sonaba ese día era buenísima pero la comida no tanto. A parte de que el precio era un poco alto para que lo que era, no era tan sabrosa.
