We have stayed at Caledonian hotel on various occasions over past years and have always enjoyed our stay....rooms lovely overlooking the harbour. However on our stay at 22nd and 23rd of March not so good, we will probably not return to this hotel. Given a room at back of hotel on 2nd floor...room was very dull and dingy..wallpaper torn and marks on it...Windows filthy on outside and window frames not so clean on the inside. In bathroom cracked tiles on floor ......makeup spill ages on blind not cleaned.....last but not least noise levels not acceptable from traffic during night.....it was as if windows were wide open......not acceptable....3hours sleep on both nights. In morning we requested to be moved and were met with curt reply no....we are fully booked...!!!. On a plus side the restaurant staff were lovely very attentive and the breakfasts were really good...
We were gifted a two night stay in the hotel, the rooms were clean and warm. The staff attentive, polite and pleasant from the girl on the door, the waiting staff and domestic staff. The food good value for money. Smashing breakfast enough to set u up for the day. Some folk on here complaining about the cosmetic issues of the hotel, the building is old and to be renovated. This in no way devalued our experience and to be honest pretty petty if you ask me!
We had booked in advance and requested an earlier check in, apon arrival we were told check in wasn't till 2pm and to come back then, we explained we had requested an early check in. The man behind the desk rudely interupted us saying they were very busy the night before and early check in isnt guaranteed...which is fair enough, but he did'nt have to be so rude about it. We were only half an hour early and expected to be directed to the restraunt or bar area, but instead he just looked at us, busied himself with his computer and told us again to come back later. I would normally ask reception for advice on the best places to go, but felt this man was unapproachable and would rather go and discover for myself. Luckily we spotted a tourist information desk on the way in, so decided to head there. Just as we were leaving he shouted us back and suggested we leave our luggage and he would store it securly. Later, when we went to check in we discovered our luggage was not secure, it remained in the same spot we left it....the only reason I am not raiting this hotel as poor is because of the wonderful views from our room window, beautiful sight to wake up to. The room itself was dated and bed uncomfortable to sleep in, breakfast was below par. If it wasn't for the fact I got a very cheap deal online I would have made several complaints.
Stayed here for two nights in one of their feature rooms which had a beautiful view over the harbour, would definitely recommend this. There is a large amount of road works going on outside the hotel at the moment but we didn't hear a thing! The breakfast we were served was lovely and the staff in the dining hall were great with all the food coming pretty quick. I read a few complaints on here before going about the reception staff being rude but I found all of them to be pleasant and friendly. The rooms are a bit worn looking and need a little bit of freshing up but I really wouldn't say this was a problem for me. I enjoy the spacious room and big baths quite a bit!
