Feedback gevenI had such an exciting and scintillating experience at WuWu. Located on the East side in Austin, TX, this hidden gem provides culture mixed with a very hip elegance. The staff was unbelievably friendly and provided both my date and I with candor and comedy. I felt like we were just chilling in my living room with friends I had known for years. The chef was able to perfectly replicate a special roll I had personally designed myself while living out in Denver. This place was extremely affordable and complimented every restaurant desire I set out for that night. Thanks guys!
Some friends and I (5 people total) went there last Friday to check it out. We were able to find parking in the back of the restaurant which was awesome! I hate driving around looking for street parking. Any who, we asked the server for some sushi suggestions and she gave us 4 of her favorites. We ordered all 4 of the rolls she suggest plus 2 more and some appetizers. The appetizers came up quickly and we pretty tasty! We enjoyed the edamame, hawaiian tar tar-tuna, and the shumi. all great! Now the issue i have is the time it took for the actual rolls to come out. Granted we ordered like 6 rolls, but thats really not that many, and it wasn't overly busy at the restaurant. total time after we finished our appetizers was well over 50 mins. The rolls were really good, but after we finished them, we were all still a bit hungry, but didnt want to wait another 50+ mins for more rolls, so we closed out the check and headed out. I had other friends go that said the same thing, everything was good, but the food just took way too long. It sucks because you can taste the quality that the sushi chef put into making the rolls. Wrap up: The food (all of it, apps and rolls) were delicious! You could taste the quality of the ingredients and the care and focus the chef put into making each roll. The service was good, everyone was really nice and prompt. The bad part was the length of time it took to get the food. I'd try back in a month or so to see if maybe they've sped up the process. So if you have lots of time, just order extra appetizers and extra sake, and hopefully the rolls wont take as long.
This place is predominately 'western ' sushi. More than half of the rolls on the menu feature cream cheese, jalapeno or something fried. I 'm not a fan of western sushi, HOWEVER they have some more traditional rolls on the menu. The sushi chefs are happy to make something custom for you as well, and it 's clear they know what they are doing. I 'm also a fan of the tuna tartare appetizer.
Their simple veggie rolls aren't on the menu, however if you ask for avocado cucumber rolls, they are $3 dollars each! You can't beat that. This is definitely going to be my go to sushi place in Austin.
This might be the best kept sushi secret in Austin. Great atmosphere, amazing sushi, all local and Japanese beers, friendly and accommodating staff, and reasonable prices.
