We usually stop into the Stockyard once a month. Great home cooked meals at affordable prices. Very clean
Visited this place a while ago Food was ok and fair authentic Mexican service was ok because the poor girl was working all on her own with no help Place could have been a bit cleaner but it’s been in operation for years and loved by the community of Aylmer it’s nit my go to place but is very popular amongst the residents of Elgin country
We drove right by this place on the way into Aylmer and it looked interesting because it is in an actual stockyard auction building. We had not been in Aylmer for years and were thinking of going to a Mexican place we knew called the Hacienda. Turns out the place burnt to the ground a few years back, but the locals we asked said to go back out the five minute drive to the Stockyard Cafe. We asked if there might not be someplace they would recommend in town and they said no. "you 'll get the best lunch at the Stockyard. So o.k. here we go. Lots of parking which was mostly full because an auction was going on. We went into the front hall which is the entrance to both the sales yard and the restaurant. It 's true that here you can smell animals, but anyone who has spent any time on a farm will tell you that smell makes you hungry. Once in the restaurant all we could smell was good food. Friendly, courteous staff, quick service, a menu that has a wide choice of both Canadian and Mexican entrees, and a clean cheerful, country atmosphere. We really enjoyed being among the farmers, and Mexican Mennonites that frequent this place. We ordered Mexican food and it was delicious, and plentiful, We all took home doggy bags which they were happy to provide, Our food wasn 't at all spicy which is what we asked for, but I 'm sure they would have spiced it up if we had asked for it, as the waitress pointed out they prepare each order from scratch. One of us didn 't want peppers on their enchilada and they were happy to comply. When the bill came it was very reasonable for what we had, and we left totally full and satisfied with the food and the experience. We liked looking at the little sheep being auctioned off as we left. Next time we go back that way I will be happy to go back there.
Staff are friendly and helpful. "Down-home" meals that won't break the bank. Canadian, authentic Mexican and Mennonite cuisine. Wednesdays are super busy, so I chose another day to go. I will certainly return and bring others as well!
