Our air BnB was beautiful with a fantastic log fire that definitely helped with the cold and wet clothes. I would recommend decent walking equipment for the hiking trails there at the at least one good pair of boots and a raincoat. There are not many grocery stores at all, we found two at the hotel/Church, but they don't have many options. Fortunately, the man in the café was incredibly friendly and helpful. He called a local who goes to the van full of fresh food and quite everything else you can think about.
A must in northern Portugal. I'd love you, this is the place for you. Geres offers a lot, hiking, camping, action and water sports, wild horses, mountains and much more. Kayak and swim in Rio Cávado, visit the waterfalls and viewpoints, see wild horses on the mountains, eat regional food and more.
Geres is really excellent place. If you want to escape from big cities and want to have a real contact with nature, it is a place for you. There are many campsites. Mountains are not very high, so everyone could walk there and there are many amazing trails. Waterfalls are also beautiful, although there is not much water in the summer.
The Peneda-Gereês National Park is one of the most beautiful nature parks in Portugal. There are many things to do like hiking, swimming and renting a 4x4. The view of the mountains is amazing.
One of the best parks in the country...Hands down...Covering a large area with plenty to see and do...Trails in every direction with swimming holes and waterfalls to boot...Sample the local culture, food and traditions...Beautiful nature and peace is what you will find here!
