Portsmouth Arms - Basingstoke

The Sunday roast was delicious, with a variety of fresh vegetables and flavorful dishes. The atmosphere was cozy and not too crowded or loud.

We have been a number of times as it’s very local to our house, everytime we dine here it’s always a new set of staff Gary the owner is always very helpful but the remainder of the staff seem to be less helpful. We received an email stating that Portsmouth arms are kids eat free one day only. When it came to paying the bill we was told they are refusing these vouchers because head office sent the email without telling the pub. We took 3 children so was a saving of £18.75 the manager was adamant she wasn’t going to accept the voucher. We wasn’t the only ones in the pub using this offer it took around 10 minutes of me telling the manager I’m not paying for the children because this voucher clearly states Portsmouth arms hatchwarren 1st March one day only offer. It wasn’t until Gary came back that he agreed to honour the offer. Not a pleasant experience don’t think we will be using the pub again which is a shame because it’s a lovely pub but the staff seem to quite rude at times and everytime we have been over the last 12 months or so there has always been some kind of issue with food or the bill etc.... this is a shame as it’s less than a 5 minutes walk from our house. Gary does need to invest quite a lot of time into training his staff I think as this is where the issues always seem to coming from. Not a good experiencez

Really good food as always, menu could be extended/diversified if looking to branch out slightly (but i appreciate its a pub serving pub food). Service on both occasions was initially very good on reception, but took quite some time to take our food order and longer still (45 minutes the first time) to take our money.
