We’ve been going here for over 10 years. Always enjoy. Went yesterday after 2 months away and a handful of the regular quality stalls have gone, thankfully there are still some great stores that still provide good customer quality for a reasonable price : Der Blumenstand, Rosa Canina, Goldmond Bakery, Sironi Mani. Alas it feels like the market is starting a trajectory towards a Ramblas style indoor market gearing itself to foodie tourists rather than locals. We’ve noticed some of the stall prices escalate this year : Kumpel Keule meats poultry stood out as particularly exorbitant. The quality is always there with K K but, such was the pricing, you could find better value in KaDeWe or Harrods Food Halls. The foodie events held in recent years haven’t been as good as previous years. I remember a tremendous coffee promotion that took over the whole market, inviting producers from across the world. Similarly another year they had a cheese promotion for European cheesemakers. Wonderful stuff. Recent promo special events have felt smaller scale and more parochial. I embrace change but I hope the market doesn’t lose its appeal in the rush to make a buck. Faire attention.
Unbelievable food from this market food hall, coming from Scotland the same sort of thing is called the Big Feed but this one in Berlin surpasses this in every single way. Me and my friend went for the Street food Thursday event. Which starts at 5pm, we had decided to go earlier to get a seat at around 3:30pm. Sampled some Bao buns, craft soft drinks (a nice fruity apple and ginger). I waited until 5pm and the bell rings indicating time to eat! With that the aromas of fresh homemade food hits you from everywhere, it can be overwhelming but my goodness it really has to be experienced at least once in a trip to Berlin. Ended up getting met filled pancake rolls and a pork belly bbq infused sandwich roll. Spectacular!
What a fantastic food market. We started with two glasses of Champagne, had some dimsum and moved onto a Thai bar. Well worth the visit whilst in Berlin as it’s cool, quirky and local. The food is excellent from the vendors we tried and the Champagne was divine.
Large market hall, hip ambience, wide selection of small stands where foods are offered in best quality. We went to the StreetFood Event on Thursday night. From oysters, through Dry Aged Burger, Asian, Oriental... everything is simply offered: The number of entrances is strictly controlled, so it is very comfortable, no amount... so it can be that you have to wait longer in front of the hall! We came at 5:30 and we were lucky not to find a snake. Prices between 4.50 and 10€ per serving. Funfact: There is a small aldi in the hall: D Look at it and sneak through diversity!
