My 84 year old mother and I had spent the night at the Sonnenhof Hotel after cruising up the Rhine River on a ferry boat. After examining the menus around town, we preferred the one at Sonnenhof. I cannot rave about the food, but it was acceptable and fairly priced.
Although the waitress didn't speak much english she made a real effort with us and we managed to have a joke with her. The meals we ordered were hearty traditional german fayre and extremely good value, I particularly liked the small salad bar where you could help yourself.
Having had several large German meals while travelling, we looked for a restaurant offering smaller portions. The Sonnenhof offered these. We ordered and our drinks arrived swiftly. Our meals arrived after about 45 minutes, as we had arrived just after a group of ladies. The smaller meals are much bigger than we had hoped, but the food was excellent. Service was also very good and friendly and the whole was very good value for money.Simple food well cooked and presented. Can be recommended.
We stayed at the hotel for four nights and ate in the restaurant twice. The meals were very good value, main courses starting at 7 euros. Good varied menu typical of the region, hearty-wholesome portions. Friendly helpful staff and good service. Don't expect Michelin star cuisine, just basic well cooked fair at a good price.
