Went for breakfast with friends and was disappointed. They were out of waffles, the only sweet item on the menu. The milk for the tea was weak. We couldn't make substitutions without extra charge. The service was lacking, with the staff too busy gossiping to attend to us properly. Probably won't be returning.
I went to this restaurant for a coffee and a snack, but I had to wait around fifteen minutes to be served. When I asked for a fruit scone, I was told they were out of stock. I then requested an almond slice, but they were also unavailable. I ended up settling for a shortbread millionaire and a chocolate brownie. Unfortunately, the coffee I ordered was tasteless - it felt like drinking hot watered-down milk, so I couldn't even finish it. When I mentioned this to a young girl before leaving, she explained that they were switching between two different types of coffee and hadn't yet perfected the strength. Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience.
We visited the garden centre and restaurant for the first time. We were greeted by a rather rude young waitress who seemed put out by our arrival at 3.30pm, explained we could have tea and cake only, we were seated, she arrived 5 minutes later to take our order but didn’t give us a menu. When asked for a menu it was like we had put her out. We paid £13 for 2 x scones and 2 x hot drinks which if the experience was good wouldn’t have been a problem but the service left a bitter taste.
When this was Johnsons Garden Centre we've eaten here and much enjoyed the food. Some of our family live in Spilsby, so it's become a kind of tradition of ours to have breakfast here. Would it be worse now it's part of a big chain ? The easy answer is NO, it's just as good. Excellent breakfast, quality ingredients, well cooked. Friendly, helpful staff, sensible prices. (Excellent plants as well, plus they have kept the local butchers etc in the shop, which is now a kind of Sainsbury Local)
