My favorite dish from my hometown of Thanh Hoa. Since moving to Dak Lak, I have been on the lookout for two of my favorite foods: eel porridge and grilled pork vermicelli. After over twenty seasons in coffee, I haven't found a place that serves eel porridge with the right flavor; it always tastes a bit bland. Recently, I discovered a grilled pork vermicelli place on Le Thanh Tong Street, and the flavor is somewhat similar to my hometown. There's a slight difference: instead of the traditional vermicelli, they serve thicker rice noodles. It's still fresh vermicelli, but when it's dispensed from the machine, it's formed into large sheets about the size of a rice bowl and about 2-3 cm thick. When eating, you have to use scissors to cut it into 3-4 bite-sized pieces. Another difference is that the rice rolls are pre-made; in my hometown, they are rolled fresh for each customer, which makes them hotter and tastier. Lastly, the grilled meatballs have a lot of lean meat but lack seasoning, giving them a dry flavor that doesn't compare to those back home. Overall, the taste is still quite similar to what I'm used to. Whenever I have work in Buon Ma Thuot City, I always stop by to support the restaurant and reminisce about a bit of the flavor from my home in Thanh Hoa.
