My husband enjoyed a scone and coffee for $8, while I had a homemade gluten free savory bread with grilled cheese and onions, served with a side of corned beef and pickle. It was truly delightful! My husband's scone came with fresh whipped cream and raspberry jam, which he said was delicious. This hidden gem of a place will definitely be a regular stop for us on our trips to Cairns.
We chanced upon The Café Bellender Ker on a rainy miserable day on our way south. Had coffee and a homemade pie.We were served by the owner who was very helpful helping us choose and very friendly. The coffee was perfect--hot and the right strength. Pie was excellent. The décor is quirky and very interesting. Magazines provided to browse while you wait. I would recommend a stop at this café. Our overall experience was fantastic.
The café is attached to a house, and it was clear that the owners live on the premises and take pride in serving their guests beautiful, homely food. In addition to the food, there are also paintings for sale in the café. Unfortunately, I learned that Café Bellenden Ker is currently up for sale, so it may not be around for much longer. I would highly recommend giving this charming café a try before it potentially closes its doors.
During our drive from Cairns to Airlie Beach, we made a pit stop at a small roadside cafe. Surprisingly, the coffee was excellent despite its remote location. We treated ourselves to homemade scones topped with jam and cream, which were absolutely delicious. The owner mentioned that all the food is freshly prepared by her, and if the scones are any indication, the rest of the menu is sure to be equally tasty.
We so often have passed by the cafe, but on this rainy day we decided to stop for a coffee and we found the place to be a lovely surprise, first there was all the artwork, some truly beautiful paintings, than came the coffee, which was just the way we liked it, as we already had had lunch we decided to have some beautiful filopastries with icecream for a treat. We also looked at the menu and talked to the owner and found out, that most of the pies ,sausagerolls are homemade and fresh fruit and vegetables are used for all meals,so next time we'll go to Cairns from our home in Bingil Bay, we will stop at the Bellenden Kerr cafe and enjoy a truly lovely lunch and maybe when you are travelling along the same route, you might think about doing the same ,Lia
