I thought my meal was delicious, but given the stingent nature of the chef would be hard pressed to return. When ordering our cocktails, I opted for their mojito – a house specialty. My husband wanted to try mine first before ordering but was told by the waitress it would be better for him to order when I did since they are so labor intensive for the bartender to make. Ok… Next, my husband and I were thinking about trying each other’s meals and since I knew that the grits accompanying my shrimp were cheesy (and hubby doesn’t eat cheese I asked if they could be placed on the plate separately. Sorry, I was told, the chef will only plate the food a specific way… but don’t worry – the shrimp won’t be sitting on the grits that long… we went along with it though my husband was a bit disappointed. Now, this is where it gets weird… my husband ordered the softshell crabs and confirmed that there was no cheese on them. He was told no, just a mayonaisse sauce of some sort. He asked if that could be put on the side or not put on at all since he doesn’t eat mayo either. The waitress replied- but the mayonaise isn’t dairy so that shouldn’t be a problem! True, my husband replied, but I don’t eat it either. Well, I don’t think the chef would agree for that – she grimaced- she likes to have things plated a specific way but I will check. Next, the hostess came to our table and said, I understand that you would like to have the softshell crabs without the mayonaise. I am sorry but the chef won’t do that. We can remove the mayo for you when the plate arrives at the table. (Yikes!! At this point, stunned, my husband asked if the grilled fish had any cheese, mayo or aioli on it – when told no, he said, he would just go for that. So, if you are happy to order your food with no modifications whatsover and don’t mind a wacky waitress (I won’t even get into the several comments she made about my son! then this is the place for you. However, if you have any food issues (or don’t like waitstaff that wince when you make a request than steer clear because the chef only serves her food a very specific way. Its too bad, because the food was very good, but to not have flexibility, when you are paying for a nice meal, is quite frustrating.
This restaurant deserves no stars, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it on Menuism. Read Flavor Finders review and then see the first comment. I’m her husband and I think she is being kind in her review. While the food is fine, I won’t support an arrogant chef who does not understand that the customer comes first. I HATED this restaurant and would have to be dragged back. Note that I will be kicking (hard) and screaming (loudly) before that ever happens. Save your money!
