We ate here when the highly recommended Tete d'Ail, nearby, was closed. In the two dining rooms, on a rainy Monday in November, 9 tables were full, mostly groups of men, none in suits. We had the 11.50 euro menu de jour, plus a 500ml carafe of the vin superior, which was so good we looked for it later in the supermarket. The menu was French onion soup, charcuterie and salad, confit duck legs with fried potatoes and a pear tart. My version was adjusted to manage my allergy to meat and dairy (!), giving me a salade composee instead of charcuterie and a fantastic lemon and basil sorbet made nearby. The service was impeccable and considerate, and the food itself was just what remembered from Routiers 30 years ago: abundant, locally sourced, no fuss and entirely satisfying. This is probably not the place for a romantic gourmet evening, but for a decent lunch in Cancon while on the road, with a thoughtful host, you won't be disappointed with this choice.
We both had 'menu du jour', pate de foie gras, followed by lamb, for a very ambitious price of 19 euros. The pate was very good, but the lamb was singularly unimpressive — some local French cut full of bones and gristle, resembling dog food, that ought to be abandoned. The wine was also mediocre despite being described as 'superior', and twice the price of similar brews in our own nearby town in similar establishments. In summary, a disappointing effort.
This was second choice of resteurant as we could not get into our first choice. What a find We had menu du jour, which was delishous It was the nicest chicken I have tastes . It is the forest time ever I have refused a dessert as I was so full that I could not manage the Boucher de Noel !!! we will defiinately be returning. The patron was very helpful and friendly making the visit even better
