The waitress was friendly, but the overall experience was average. We waited at the waitress stand for 10 minutes before deciding to go to the bar to ask if we should seat ourselves. It seemed that other guests had encountered the same issue. A sign indicating that guests should seat themselves would have been helpful. The food took a while to be served and the portions were small. The steak and eggs only consisted of four slices of ribeye, which were overcooked. The chicken breast on top of the Belgian waffle was dry and crispy. The restaurant kindly re-cooked the waffle and steak for us. The chicken sandwich was also dry, although the bacon on it was crispy. The children's pizza was the only meal that we found satisfactory. Additionally, there was a dangerous damaged wooden table leg that could potentially cause injury to someone wearing open-toe shoes.
Hey locals, don't overlook this hidden gem. My husband and I set out on Sunday morning in search of a brunch spot. Every place we passed was crowded. We were near the Mills House and decided to try the Barbados Room. I am so happy we did. The atmosphere was calm and soothing. The service was warm and attentive. We began with the pimento cheese and followed it up with the Mills House breakfast - two eggs, your choice of grits or potatoes, bacon or sausage, and toast. The dish also included some perfectly charred tomato slices. It was absolutely delicious!
I recently attended a friend's dinner at this restaurant located in the Mills Hotel near the battery. It was an okay experience, nothing extraordinary. However, I must say that the Charcuterie board was fantastic. The drinks were good, but a bit on the pricey side. The chicken sandwich was decent, though it was also a bit expensive. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again, but I wasn't disappointed with the experience. It was easy to make a reservation as well.
Located in the historic Mills House Hotel, the Barbadoes Room is a pretty restaurant with plenty of southern charm. However, the ambiance doesn't make up for where they miss the mark on food. I've been here twice for lunch and both times it was just an okay experience. The restaurant has been less than halfway full both times I've been, yet service is a bit slow and inattentive. The menu is also not very exciting to me, on my most recent visit I tried the house made spaghetti but the pasta was a clump that you had to use a knife to cut into and separate. During my first visit I had a chicken salad sandwich which was also just okay. This may be a good place to try for brunch, but lunch is a miss for me unfortunately.
