Feedback gevenWe held a lunch for 20 people at The Wheatsheaf after our wedding ceremony in June 2023, and everything was fantastic from beginning to end. They created a fantastic menu for us in the upstairs room, which included their famous Wheatsheaf smokies. The food was delicious and the team working on the day was incredible. The space was just right for our group size and everyone had a wonderful time. A big thank you to Vicky and the team for making everything so seamless and for ensuring that the day went off without a hitch!
I celebrated Father's Day with my English friends after arriving from Australia at this beautiful historical restaurant. Formerly known as the "Slate Splitters Arms" dating back to the 1700s, it was the perfect introduction to my English holiday. I couldn't resist trying the Wheatsheaf Smokie Haddock with a white wine cream sauce, tomatoes, and a crunchy cheese grainery bread topping, which was absolutely heavenly. For dessert, we enjoyed the Elderslie Cheesecake with Pimms, which was also divine. Our party of 6 had an outstanding dining experience with exceptional service and ambiance.
I provided this feedback via their in-house feedback form but they didn’t bother to reply. My girlfriend booked us a table. When we checked the lady behind the bar was puzzled, unable to find our table. Was referred to “manager” who took us to a table with a card showing the table was reserved for another guest. Why no label for our table? Although there were many nice alcoves with a modicum of privacy our table was an awkward add-on in an awkward position with no privacy whatsoever. We ordered drinks that arrived timely and we ordered our roast lamb dinner. Three more times different staff asked us if we had ordered yet? Another example of the chaotic management style!! Within minutes the next table just a few feet away showed themselves to be very inconsiderate with a constantly barking dog under the table, very loud barking. I made my feeling very clear to the staff and soon the barking was stopped. Why allow dogs into the eating area? It’s not appropriate!! We started eating out roast dinner only to be disturbed again by a multiple tray crash, three separate crashes one after the other followed by staff rushing past us to investigate and clear up. Remember, our table in an awkward position, very apparent now. A few minutes later I expected a repeat when another staff member tried to navigate a fully loaded tray through a doorway narrower than the tray. It just beggars belief. Get proper trays!! We finished our dinner which was actually very nice, the only good thing in our visit, and left. It is hard to see why we would want to return to The Wheatsheaf Inn. It was chaotic.
Extremely friendly and professional service. Good food. Nice pint. Sunny day sat outside. What’s not to like. I loved my lunch here and all of the staff I came into contact with were excellent. Our new pup was also happy. At least he looked like he was as everyone said hello to him and were so lovely. My first visit and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you
Fabulous food with great service. The fish pie was epic as was the bread pudding. Now no need to eat for a day or two
