Speight's Ale House - Christchurch

Ordered the steak medium rare, when it came out the chips were warm at best and the steak was more like rare, even possibly raw in one or two spots. After pointing out to the bar staff that I ordered medium rare I was asked ‘is it too rare?’ Interestingly enough yes, yes it was. I was told there was nothing that could be done. Disappointed that 1) the speights ale house was not able to cook a steak correctly; 2) that there was no reparation- not even a drink on the house; and 3) that the bar staff had no knowledge on how steaks are cooked, they had to ask me

Great food, excellent service highly recommended. the woman and I eat today and while the dining room was full. we could get a table outside in a well protected area a little windy) but eating was worth it.

Wonderful service, good food. they needed everyone. high chair for the small, cared for the birthday cake we brought with candles etc., the personal even took photos for us so that all family could be included. the day was simply made perfect by the personal service, many thanks.

Stopped into Speights Ale House for Dinner tonight. Restaurant seemed quiet but it was a Tuesday night so to be expected I guess. Hostess was quick and friendly greeting me as I came in! She took my drink order and delivered it with the Menu. Came back quick and timely to grab my order. I ordered the Chicken Parcel with chips and salad. It was absolutely delicious. The filo pastry was crispy and the Chicken Breast Stuffing was smooth and tasty, flavoured with Sundried Tomato, Red Onion and Cream Cheese. It has a side helping of Peach Chutney which compliments the Parcels beautifully. Generous portion of chips and salad make this a meal worth choosing! A new favourite of mine at Speights Ale House! Manager checked in with me too and the service was good. I’ll be back! Thanks team!

Service was prompt and friendly, setting was fine, typical Ale House. We both ordered the pan fried fish and it was perfectly cooked, but the vegetables were slightly warm and unfortunately raw so we couldn't eat them. If not would have given 5 stars.
