I saw the comments frankly that I wanted to try. not disappointed by the smiling and welcoming waitress. well-stocked plates and reasonable prices.
We picked this restaurant because it was the first one where menu was in English or German - not only French. Waitress couldn't or didn't want to help us with choosing the meal (language wasn't the blocker). Finally we picked Arcades Burgers. As for 9EUR they were warm, not too big but tasty. There were many people so we waited about 30 min to get the meal. There are small amount of tables inside, better to seat outside. When it came to the payment, I wanted to pay NFC contactless with my phone - it was unacceptable by the waitress and she couldn't tell me why. However I could pay contactless with MasterCard instead... To sum up, Dear Reader, if you can, find another restaurant to eat. If you are afraid that you don't know what to order because you don't know French, eat at Brasserie des Arcades. However I won't eat there again during my next visit to Colmar.
Service was ignorant and very unhelpful. Food was not worth the price paid restaurant atmosphere was cramped and dreary. Plenty of other food options on the same street that offer much better selection of food choices and better service. Also not dog friendly. Waitress kicked a couple out that came in to have lunch with a dog, I did not see any sign on the door or notice that said no dogs. Very impolite to a potential customer.
Our first night in the Alsace my wife and I were seeking a recommended restaurant. We obviously had the wrong address and were hungry, so we chose a locale based on...whatever criteria we used, it was wrong. My wife's Pinot Noir tasted watered down, my dark beer, according to my wife "tasted like bathroom soap," no argument from me. I ordered a regional speciality, choucroute garnie (sauerkraut with mixed sausage and other local meats) and my wife ordered Baeckeoffe, another regional speciality. Although my wife's meal was tasty, asthecitally it was very unappealing. My meal was bland and when the requested mustard appeared, a fist full of foil packets were dumped unceremoniously on the table. At this point the meal became a laughing matter. No pretenses, we were there to fill our stomachs with road food and fine dining will occur somewhere else, in the near future. The service was...not sure. We got what we ordered, although requested water never appeared and the waiter did attempt to bill me for a second beer. Les Arcades appears to be a local favorite; so either the locals have no taste or the meals are filling and cheap. In the few hours since we've eaten there, it has become a standing joke. Always good to have a bad meal travel story, we now have ours.Don't go unless you want one, seriously!
