I have consistently visited this establishment for 7 years and has never been disappointed at the service, but especially in the quality of sushi. recently I have seen negative critikens complaining about the hostess and or waiting time, but I owe them to a lack of lust to enjoy the true experience. in this day and the time of necessity to have it now, it is understandable that the impatient and legitimate over a lonely hard working Asian dame would complain, not to their every bite and call, while my every experience eating there was the complete opposite. umai is not ready for the new age apparently, it is quality traditional restaurant of a hard working family that are nothing other than the best sushi.
Rude owners! Went here tonight for sushi and asian carryout, after debating the menu for five minute,s the owners wife got ready to take our order. fortunately she said that we would have to wait 40 minutes for something as simple as a california roll, I wanted bibimbap (god forbid). I was aghast at the wait time since we were there in the establishment. I told her no, we can't wait that long, we were with two kids. As we were leaving my partner asked if she could use the restroom, the woman said, NO Customers Only!!! I was again taken aback. I've eaten here before, they have the only sushi in town although everything on the menu is overpriced. I told the lady, guess what! We will never set foot in this place again. Don't waste your time on mediocre, overpriced food and horrible service........Bad attitude lady. You don't ever get my money!
The Owner women Rude beyond Rude our Chicken And Beef Box on Menu clearly Priced 21.95 she charged beef Box 25.95 chicken box 23.95.
I lived in Tokyo for a year. Umai takes me back to restaurants I frequented while there. The owners got everything right, from the small tables, to the décor (noren), to even the smell (that hard to replicate PLEASANT combination of brine, cedar and fish). Of course the food is top notch: melt in your mouth sushi, minimalist miso soup, beautifully prepared bento boxes, more complex for the adventurous diner. Authenticity rules and you might as well be dining in the Ginza! I tried their Korean dishes. Delicious. But I can't speak to their authenticity. But the Japanese dishes are about as real as you can get, particularly when paired with a selection of their authentic Japanese beers. Reasonably priced! Excellent table service.
I had 2 sushi rolls and they were absolutely delicious. The ingredients were so fresh. Some of the best I've ever had.
