Celebrated my birthday here while in Denver. Service was great! Unfortunately they were out of quite a few dishes when we visited, some that we were planning on ordering. I ended up getting the steak frites. The meat was very good, cap ribeye cooked just how I like, but it did have a little too much of a lemon taste, which I believe was in the bone marrow butter. I just don’t like lemon and meat together, but I know that is entirely personal preference.I completely understand being out of a few items, and that they probably would not want to sacrifice quality in order to have the full menu available, but it was a large chunk of the menu that they were not serving, which even if there is nothing that could be done, is still definitely disappointing. For most people, including ourselves, I would consider it a special occasion restaurant, prices are not terrible at all, but it is expensive enough that it especially stinks to be disappointed in your experience.
The food and drinks here were amazing! My favorite dish would have to be the carbonara which I normally don’t ever get because the way it tends to be made is inauthentic but after seeing photos from other people’sreviews I know this was not the case at American Elm. My only criticism is with regards to the shrimp. I would skip out on this dish because for what I recall was $18 for three pieces of shrimp split between two people was kind of a joke.Overall, I would highly recommend this neighbourhood gem!
Beautiful ambiance on the patio and great food. I had the carbonara. Excellent homemade pasta. The sauce was a bit salty, but still good. Also, the burrata fritters were a great appetizer choice.Dietary restrictions: Our gluten free friend had a lot of great menu options to choose from. They had a gluten free bread from a local bakery that I actually thought was better than the regular toast.
I drive past this place all the time and tbh at first I thought it was a furniture store. I finally decided to check it out and I am impressed! They have a very cute patio with a fragrant herb garden, a nice privacy fence around it and in the center is a giant elm tree. They have sparkling water on tap, an immediate bonus point, and ample patio seating even after 6pm on a SaturdayMy boyfriend and I ordered mussels and oysters to start and they did not miss. They had an easy and west coast oyster and I highly recommend getting a few of each; one was bright and clean and one was plump and creamy. The mussels where absolutely perfect (the tiniest bit boozy because the white wine hadn't cooked all the way but I didn't mind it) and served with the best fries of all, shoestring ?After that we totally could have shared the French dip and called it a day but we ordered pasta on top of it. The French dip was super good, the pasta was well done but I think by the time I started eating it I was so full I didn't really have a taste for it anymore but that was no way their fault. I took the pasta home and it made great leftovers! I will definitely be adding this to our date night rotation ?
