However since the new owners took over they have made some frankly cynical money grubbing changes to the menu and they must be the only pub in the country that charges for dog treats! Yes you read that right Every other pub I 've ever been in that 's dog friendly gives away free dog treats Not here 50p for a bonio what the actual Also me andy mate go here regularly for a beer or two or lunch , we have previously enjoyed a great crab sandwich but I was unpleasantly surprised to see it on the menu as a Devon crab and prawn sandwich That is not a thing! they have cynically cut the expensive crab with cheap imported prawns to cut costs , about 40% crab 60% prawn we estimate, this is disingenuous and downright dishonest , it implies the prawns are from Devon but I doubt that strongly I suspect they are imported from the far east where they are often produced in terrible conditions by indentured workers that amounts to modern slavery , it 's a crying shame as the old owners where decent folk , the new guy is apparently a multi millionaire , I guess you don 't get stinking rich by being kind , decent or honest , the pub will do brisk trade because of it 's magical location and I 'll still go there for a drink but I 'd rather eat my own feet than eat there again :
What a find! Having to walk is an extra charm too, such a beautiful stroll along the canal path. We had mussels and ploughman's lunch, both lovely. Tiramisu and lemon posset for dessert. Good drinks, nice coffee too and the views are spectacular. We managed to nab a couple of illusive deck chairs and ended up here for hours. Will 100% be back and make a day of it, maybe jump the ferry to Topsham for a hour! Positives: Charming, picturesque, well kept, good services, nice interior, excellent food, lots of exterior tables, great atmosphere, optional BBQ with vegan options. Seeing others food come out the burgers and chips looked divine. Negatives: It's pricey, but you kinda expect it. But I guess it's kinda average prices now for pubs and you've got the location. Was a bit disappointed I had quite a few dead mussels in my portion so someone in the kitchen isn't checking them properly but I was full on what I'd had so couldn't grumble too much. Honestly had the perfect end to my week off. I think this has to be one of the best places locally.
From Colorado, USA and walked into this Gorgeous Pub and its picturesque setting…To top this beautiful day the food was absolutely amazing! Had roast beef dinner so tender many delicious vegetables everything was really a satisfying meal! Quite happy and truly enjoyed every bite! Would definitely go back and take friends…You will not be disappointed! Very friendly staff, Wonderful experience!
So taken aback to be charged £9.10 for a 175 mls glass of wine . Such a shame , beautiful place but that is very expensive. Will certainly stop me going if that’s what prices are like . Please rethink your pricing . People will stop visiting .
First visit under new owners and underwhelming. £30 for 4 drinks really expensive compared to other local options! Normally go to The Anchor at Cofton which is prettier and less pricey. We wanted a snack but kitchen was shut until 5 on a fairly busy Easter Saturday. As most people walk/cycle there and it was fairly cold people didn’t want to wait. Disappointing! Will visit for drinks again as we walk that way, But will forget the food as menu looked below average anyway.
