Boy, were the reviews wrong on this place. I should have dug deeper into them. Food I got a veal dish, my wife the filet. Mine was oversalted and drenched in whatever the topping was. The side spaghetti squash looked like the insides of a pumpkin and didn 't taste much better. My wife 's filet had a slight aftertaste that made me wonder about it 's age. When our waitress asked how the food was and we told her mine was oversalted, she replied, yes, other customers have complained about that too look at my picture and tell me if that 's appetizing. To be fair, I had eaten some of the veal after scraping the topping off. Atmosphere the tables have clear plastic on top. I guess they don 't want to wash the tablecloths. Was not expecting that based on the reviews of how great this place was. We brought wine. Our glasses were brought to us still wet. Service the waitresses were nice, but I picked up from their conversations with other tables (regulars? that they were going to stick it out here, with new owners coming in. Speaks to other issues this place is probably having.
I've been here several times a year for many years and the high quality of the food and service is very consistent. They understand gluten free and the chef is happy to make a dish gluten free when possible. It has a relaxed atmosphere with a charming, cozy interior. I had a nice, classic bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer with a kind of jam that didn't really add anything. My companions shared a generous mushroom bruschetta. For an entree, I ordered the special : a mix of seafood over pasta you could get with red sauce or garlic butter. The chef made GF pasta no problem. Honestly, it wasn't my favorite thing I've had, but I probably should have ordered the spicy version . There were two GF desserts to choose from: creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake. Both are delicious. There were many other wonderful looking desserts including carrot cake, chocolate peanut butter cake, cannoli, a cream puff, another chocolate cake and more. Just a note, people I have dined with rave about the snapper soup and get it every time they go. Also, the schnitzel is very popular. Lastly, at lunch time, you can order from a lunch menu, a lighter fare menu or the dinner menu. So you can have a cheeseburger and ice tea or a steak and a glass of wine or something in between. Your choice.
Excellent food and service! Desserts were great. A lot to choose from.
Had a wonderful dining experience yesterday for my first time at The Carriage House. The rustic, relaxed decor was very inviting. Great selection of cocktails, wines and beer. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was excellent. There is a wide assortment of appetizers, sandwiches and entrees to choose from and portions are very generous. I had the crab cakes entree 2 crab cakes, outrageously delicious smashed potatoes and zucchini, onion and pepper medley). My husband could not stop raving about the Shepherd 's pie. Another dining partner had the fish and chips, which I must try on my next visit. Our server, Lisa, was funny, friendly and efficient. I wish much success to gracious hosts and owners Kate Mike. My only regret is that I forgot to take pictures of the food and I didn 't have enough room for dessert because they all looked scrumptious! Next time.
