Chef Chi - Edinburgh, City of

I am vegetarian and quite a fussy eater. I have to say this is the best Chinese takeaway I have had in a long time. Lots of really fresh and interesting vegetables and good amount of tofu. Fabulous meal. Would highly recommended. My husband who is a non vege loved his too.

I've been to Chef Chi twice so far and both times the service was genuinely friendly and the food surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because I love Chinese food but generally don't return after trying a new takeaway because I'm often so disappointed by the quality. But in this case I made a detour off the A1 to come back here after being impressed by my first visit. I haven't eaten here enough to give a full opinion, but what I had was definitely a notch above the typical takeaway. It wasn't fine dining or Chinese home cooking, but it was more delicate and subtle than usual, not greasy at all, not gloopy, it felt freshly cooked, and the prawn crackers (a free addition to my order, much appreciated were the best I've had in ages. I enjoyed the food and the portions were generous. I will definitely be back, despite not living locally, especially as the place felt welcoming. (I understand they previously had a small restaurant, which closed during Covid.

Really amazing food. Staff are incredibly friendly (even gave the kids some sweets whilst we waited for our food). Definitely recommend.

Normally great food great service but not tonight. Asked what was in a special curry before ordering, was given the wrong information when it arrived it had duck in it which I don’t like. Salt chilli chips were also not nice, dry possibly over cooked or re-heated. Called to let them know was stunned at the way I was spoken to. I assume it to be the owner who consistently shouted at me, wouldn’t let me speak, told me I was accusing her staff of lying, told me the ingredients were on the menu which they are not she told me not to go back!! I have genuinely never been spoken to in such a disgusting manner. She did refund me for the main mail but the whole meal was returned. Very poor.

Got the wrong dish delivered and called to let them know. Zero after care and customer service levels. Was advised order was read back to me, pretty sure I would have picked up that chicken was mentioned when I'd actually ordered king prawn. Colleague then came on phone saying she heard what was read back as was standing right beside her when she took the order, very much doubt that in a busy takeaway on a friday night when they get tons of orders!!!! Very disappointed in the food, service and overall attitude.
