Heron Cove - Effingham

The food at this restaurant is unique and delicious. We tried the salmon with a sweet boiled apple topping on a bed of rice, and it was the most delicious salmon I've had in a long time. The dish didn't even need lemon juice to cover any fishiness. It would have been nice to have a vegetable side. We also tried the Thai rice with smoked pork, which was excellent, although the waiter mentioned he usually has it with shrimp. Next time, I'd like to try that. We didn't get a chance to try the wings, but they are highly recommended both online and in-person at the restaurant. The waiter even joked about wanting a shirt that said "will work for wings." I definitely plan on coming back, especially since Effingham is one of our stops on our way to the south. The owners are friendly and even brought out their sweet baby for us to see. We were lucky to visit on a slow Sunday evening in January. This place is a hidden gem, especially in the winter, but I can imagine it would be even better sitting on the lake in the summer. Looking forward to visiting again on our way back from the south.

Effingham is one of our regular stops on our way South, and the owners are friendly and personable. We visited on a slow Sunday night in January and found it to be a hidden gem, especially in the winter, with seating by the lake available in the summer. We will definitely be back on our way back from the South.
