The café is wheelchair accessible and you can take your dog to the café when you place your order, but then you have to sit outside. There are picnic benches and water dishes. Because the vegan sandwich options were sold out at 1 o'clock (please make more! I enjoyed a parsnip and apple soup with a coffee. I got 25p from my drink for my own reusable cup. The rest of my party had vegan baked potato with beans and a coconut milk cure that, warned, does not come with rice. The portions of soup and curry were in cups that did not fill up the tank after a morning of walking, but bought us enough time to bring us to a greater meal. The table nearby had vegan pasties that looked a bit more substantially. Will stop there again, but maybe only for a coffee, unless they have the vegan sandwiches available.
The Doktor Hat is a charming and cozy place to stop by for a light lunch, dessert, or a warm drink after exploring the nearby nature reserve. The café is wheelchair accessible and allows customers to bring their dogs inside while they place their order, but they must sit outside afterward. There are picnic benches and water bowls available for pets. Unfortunately, the vegan sandwich options were sold out by 1 pm, so I opted for a parsnip and apple soup with a coffee. I received a discount of 25p for using my own reusable cup. The rest of my group ordered a vegan baked potato with beans and a coconut milk curry, which did not come with rice. The soup and curry portions were served in bowls, which didn't fully satisfy our hunger after a morning of walking, but it bought us enough time until our next meal. The table next to us had vegan pastries that looked more filling, so we may return for those in the future, but possibly just for a coffee unless they restock the vegan sandwich options.
I love that they offer milk alternatives for coffee at this restaurant. Their pastries are delicious and they have multiple locations around the Northern Territory. The only downside was that the only vegan dessert option was a jacket potato, so I took off a star for the limited choices. The restaurant is clean, cozy, and inviting.
The Docky Hut is a charming and convenient spot for a light lunch, cake, or hot beverage after exploring Wicken Fen Nature Reserve. The cafe is accessible for wheelchairs and allows dogs inside when ordering, but guests must sit outside afterwards. Picnic benches and water bowls are provided. Although the vegan sandwich options were sold out by 1pm (please make more!), I enjoyed a delicious parsnip and apple soup with a coffee. I received a discount on my drink for using my own reusable cup. My companions had a vegan baked potato with beans and a coconut milk curry, which does not include rice. The soup and curry portions were served in mugs and didn't quite fill us up after a morning of walking, but held us over until our next meal. The neighboring table had vegan pasties that appeared more substantial. I will definitely return to The Docky Hut, perhaps just for coffee unless they have the vegan sandwiches available.
The restaurant now offers various tasty vegan options on their menu, such as freshly baked vegan pasties, jacket potatoes, hot vegan sausage sandwiches, and cakes. They also have vegan coleslaw available. We love coming here frequently to enjoy the delicious food and taking a leisurely walk around the national trust site afterwards.
