Pollos El Gallo - Garden Ridge

My son and I really enjoy the food at this restaurant. It's a refreshing alternative to the fast food options in the area. The chicken is fantastic, and I'm particularly fond of the twice-baked potatoes with cheese. I can't wait to try the fajitas and short ribs next, as they look amazing!

The chicken here is nothing special—it's the same bland chicken that you find at all these similar restaurants. It's like they all source their chicken from the same supplier. I called ahead to place an order for two whole chicken and beans and rice combos. During the call, I specifically asked if the chicken came with lemon or lime, and the person on the line assured me it would come with limes. As a Mexican, I know how essential lemon and chili are for enhancing flavor, so I was looking forward to it. However, when I got home and opened the order, there were no lemons! To add insult to injury, I was shorted one drumstick and only received three instead of four. It felt like I got the one handicapped chicken. Also, can someone explain what the green slop is that everyone calls green salsa? All pollo asado places serve it, but I can't understand why. Please, do better for your customers—we all have to drive quite a distance to get to your restaurant.

I ordered the beef fajitas, and everything was delicious; however, it could have used more fajita vegetables.

The food was great and the service was friendly, though a bit on the slow side. We dined in for lunch, and the price per person was around $10–20. I would rate the food a 4, the service a 3, and the atmosphere a 4. I recommend trying the Half Chicken!
