Bonani Cafe - GENOVA

I imagine that a very enthusiastic couple have renovated this tiny little hole-in-the-wall cafe to provide the sort of love that they like, and it works for me. In a city obsessed with bread, I sought out a salad and we spied some green in the chilled display and asked for a salad which the owner then prepared himself fresh, by hand, which was perfect and served with both olive oil and balsamic vinegar-the good stuff it was too! Mineral water, coffee, and a good, long read of my book and I was in heaven. As we all know, the measure of civilisation is their toilet (gabinetto! which was clean as a whistle and quite fancy-I 'm quite particular about that after seeing some nightmare-creating holes in Asia....and back home in Oz too for that matter. I was touched to see the owner quite sweetly comfortable with folk off the street using his facility. There are good people. Anyway back to the food-the table next to us had a cheese platter (it looked wondrous and some white wine and they looked like 'Queens of the world '. The alcoholic drinks seemed to be mostly everything you 'd need so I 'm going back to get stuck into them. I think that this place is my antidote for the tourist trap that is Savona. Lets see, I 'll go salad, cheese, wine bread (sigh and maybe brandy.

We were in Genoa just for the day while on a cruise, visited Chiesa di San Lorenzo and then walked down Via Garibaldi. We stopped at Cafe Bonani for some gelato and coffee, very restful and comfortable with prompt service. It had also a convenient mail box near our table so we wrote postcards while we had our coffee. This is a pedestrian street and it has beautiful views of old Renaissance buildings. It is across from the Municipio Building which is so nice to visit also. We would stop here again if we are in the area.
