For a 'greasy spoon ' cafe, everything has always been to the expected standard. More recently, I feel the standards have slipped slightly Lorne sausage was being deep fried, for starters. That 's new? My most recent visit has probably lost me as a customer, however. One of the two women working this morning were cleaning the overhead extractor fans whilst the other was preparing my food. I knew when I saw this that I wouldn 't accept the offerings from your cafe for this very reason. I did continue to watch, though to see how this progressed. The container which was being used to hold the sponge, soap/ detergent and water had a white cloudy substance which was only comparable to milk. This liquid was splashing onto the hotplate and the general area where the food was being prepared. My appetite left in a hurry upon seeing this as it would most people. I also saw the sponge dropping to the floor, to be picked up and kept being used. This furthered the problem of poor standards of hygiene. I didn 't moan or cause a scene. I did, however, challenge the young lady by asking whether they should be doing such heavy cleaning at the same time as preparing food for customers (knowing the answer). She objected to this by giving the excuse that they close at 3. This is not the issue? I have no control over the opening times? I just would like a roll prepared without the risk of splishy splashy horridness dripping onto what I 'm about to put in my mouth. A pretty reasonable request and objection from my end, wouldn 't you say? No apology was offered. They did, in fairness, offer to cook it again. But by this point I 'd decided I probably wouldn 't be coming back anyway. I don 't think they were willing to address the core problem, just my reaction to the problem. They also said 'well, none of it went on your food '. Really, how can you prove this? I could see it happen! I feel that if something isn 't done soon, people will start talking negatively about your (up until recently) nice little cafe and business will drop off. This has already started, but I 'm just sharing my experience. Having poor hygienic standards in eateries will be hugely detrimental to your business. Especially when it is in plain sight and being done by staff who are treating food standards with either negligence or incompetence. Don 't think I 'll be back any time soon and will be sharing this experience to anyone who is thinking of coming over for food. Sorry.
Went for a birthday meal and my husband had cocked up the booking, but the team sorted us out with no hassle at all. Food was slightly bland, but I'd try again.
