However, in recently getting take-out, I was really disappointed in my brisket. It was super fatty, somewhat tough, and did not come with a lot of sauce. The fries were also pretty sad. Mac n' cheese was solid, but I can get that in a lot of places. I think I'd give them another try, but I am definitely never doing take-out again.
Nestled in a quiet strip mall, you could easily drive past this little gem. Even though our friends and family recommended this place to us, we're just now getting around to it. How silly we were. This could quite possibly, be one of the best BBQ places, that we've been to. Do yourself a favor, and start with the smoked wings. Yes, smoked. These wings are first smoked, then fried. You can then choose to have a dry rub or wet sauce added. We decided to do them straight up. This was a wise choice. The smoked flavor really comes through, with each crunchy bite. For our meals we selected the smoked turkey and pulled pork. Each meal comes with two sides and cornbread. We picked the macaroni and cheese, baked beans, cole slaw and collard greens. Everything was wonderful. The turkey was a bit dry, but with a little of the Carolina Mustard Sauce, it was brought back to life! Top it off with a friendly and accommodating staff, and you've got a top notch BBQ joint! Can't wait to go back.
Gideon 's has something for every member of our gang of 5... We 've NEVER been disappointed! We like eating out family style so we order a few different dinners and everybody gets to try it all. My son and I devour the brisket, hubby and little one can 't get enough turkey ribs, and my daughter digs the pulled pork with a fun variety of sauces.. Plus, we all have lots to choose from for favorite sides pickled beets are my fav, hubby likes the corn bread, and, of course the kiddos adore the Mac n chz. Next time, we need to try the milkshakes!
We came here tonight, Friday evening after 6 with the best of intentions. We were excited to try out the new local smokehouse BBQ. It's a cold evening and we were looking forward to a nice hearty meaty meal. The parking lot was packed, but we found a spot in the back. The place was pretty quiet and we were greeted warmly immediately upon entry. It appears clean and neat with three men working at the front. The owner chatted us up cheerfully and we enjoyed getting to know him and he us. He explained the menu choices and recommended the burnt ends with two sides for the hubby (he chose baked beans collard greens). I had already decided on a bowl of chili as my usual go to choice for cold winter evenings. With one drink that set us back about $27. A bit steep for what we had, but we were still enthusiastic. We ordered and sat down at a table for two with a red checkered picnic style liner and industrial paper towel in a holder. Almost immediately our food came out and was brought to us. That's where the fun stopped. The portions were decidedly on the smallish side and burnt ends were not hot. His collard greens were watery and the baked beans were bland and black beans, not the Boston kind. My chili was flavorless and worse yet, watery and not meaty, but small shredded meat throughout. No chunks of meaty goodness and nothing to fill you up or feel satisfying. I gave both stars for the stellar service and kindness of the staff. We definitely won't be back. I'm so sorry to say that sadly, we both left disappointed and unsatisfied.
The place had somewhat limited parking, and the prices are a tad inflated, BUT...... It is clean, there are plenty of tables and a very courteous , patient and attentive Staff. The food: hot, good portions, the beans are a bit el dente, and lack spice; the corn needs sweetness, and yet the ribs were precut to size. There are choices in sauces, but not in the music background. All in all, a filling meal, and you clean your own table. They provided homestyle plates and utensils but it was a challenge to figure out where I was going to put the bones as I worked my way through the ribs.
