Been in the place more times than i can remember, They have plenty to chose from and alway clean and tidy inside can't fault this place. well worth a visit
We only knew this busy place existed thanks to other TripAdvisor users. It's a canteen. Customers take a tray and queue for food and the place crammed mostly with locals. The seating is comfortable without pretension, or real style and the tables were comfortably high. There is out door seating too. And yes, the friendly manic manager that other users mention was there and yes he was impressive, multi - tasking away at a great pace. All the staff were friendly and they genuinely seemed to be enjoying being busy including the manic manager. All the food looked very good, and there was a pretty extensive choice. We opted for a three course lunch meal each with coffees at less than £8 - before sterling lost its value. I can't recall the starter but it was vegetarian. We both chose the chicken main with rice and the food portion was generous and all the food was tasty but could have been warmer. The dessert was stewed apple with a light crumble on top. The coffees too were tasty but could only be dispensed with a metal disc which is given once you pay. There were jugs of water beside the coffee machine. There are wheeled metal frames to hold trays of dishes and customers are expected to clear their dishes to keep costs down. Fair play given the quality and decent portions. One thing made me smile. The coffees come black. No milk in sight. So I asked a waitress for milk and u was handed one of those tiny plastic pots you get in hotel rooms. She asked for ten cents and as I was about to pay for this thimble full of milk the manager was whizzing past and in flight waived the cost and flew on to his next task. He did so with a smile. Bless.
We found it just as it started to rain and needed somewhere to stop. The food selection was very good, reasonably priced. Suitable for all the family
Fish pie - roast ham and excellent freshly cooked courgettes with a Normandy sauce. A truly splendid meal. However no sign of the tall manager observed my 7 year old daughter. Let's hope he will be back soon. Fortunately the restaurant ran smoothly without him.
