I'm going to miss this place, they made the best kebab in the 519 area and I'll die on that hill.
I visited this restaurant after seeing the positive reviews. The food is very average potatoes were cold, and chicken was in the form of large chunks instead of thinly sliced as shawarma should be. Hot sauce was also added without asking if I wanted it, resulting in really bad heartburn. This place is quite popular with students, hence why the quality may be lacking I think as they want a cheap meal. Most menu items were not available according to the gentleman working there, who also seemed like he really did not like his job and communicating with customers. There are other shawarma places in the area that are far better, one right around the corner.
Kaza Meza is about as good as the average shawarma place in other cities, but its the best in Guelph by far because it serves garlic potatoes, the toppings are always fresh, and the fryer oil is always clean. None of that is true for other shawarma places in Guelph. Its not perfect though. There is a 50/50 chance that the staff will follow your instructions. You can request a fork and a knife and they will give you 3 spoons instead. Or you ask for sauce on the side and they put in on your food. They also don't honour their hours. They close whenever they feel like it so the only way to know if they are open is to call first. Even though they are supposed to be open until 10pm on Saturday, they will close before 7pm if they feel like it.
Honestly, completely different experience than what I was expecting after the great reviews on this place.I initially ordered the shawarma on rice and the guy started making it right away without a word. I asked if I could just upgrade to the platter instead so I could get potatoes and salad with it too. He said he’s already made it (literally just put chicken on top of rice and that’s it) and what do I expect him to do with it now. I said that’s fine and just paid for my shawarma on rice and left. Terrible customer service but at least I thought the food would be good. Wrong again, as the food was pretty terrible compared to most shawarma spots. Rice was dry and hard (which is literally so hard to do unless it’s been sitting for a long time) and the garlic sauce was not tasty at all (I had even asked for extra initially cause he only put two drops at first). Chicken was cut into huge chunks and was not shredded into small pieces which is not like most shawarma places.Just moved into the area so decided to try it out based off the reviews but will not be going back again. First experience getting shawarma where I’ve felt like I’ve had to force myself to eat more so I wouldn’t waste food.
