We have been regular customers since it first opened, but unfortunately, we will not be returning after a disappointing experience last week. The service and food quality have significantly declined. Our drinks took a long time to arrive and our orders were incorrect. We waited 30 minutes for oysters and another 40 minutes for our starters. The wait for our main courses was also very long and the food was disappointing. The steak pie was dry and the cod was overcooked. We raised our concerns with the operations manager, who did offer a round of drinks on the house, but this did not make up for the poor experience we had. It is unclear what has happened to this once great establishment, but there are better dining options available in East Lothian.
We had a fantastic stay at the Bonnie Badger on March 12th after winning a one night B&B plus Dinner package in a charity auction. The staff welcomed us warmly and professionally, setting the tone for a wonderful stay. Our room was beautifully decorated, well-maintained, and had all the amenities we needed. The package included a glass of champagne and tasty canape snacks in the garden room upon arrival. We enjoyed aperitifs in the bar before a delicious three course dinner at The Stables restaurant. The food and service were impeccable. Breakfast the next morning was equally excellent, and we were sad to leave with complimentary flapjacks and water for our journey. Thank you for a memorable stay.
I had been wanting to stay at the Bonnie Badger since it opened, but never had the chance until recently when business brought me and a colleague to the area. We were thrilled with our experience on Monday night. The hotel had the same stylish and sassy vibe, excellent customer service, and delicious cuisine as the Firmdale Hotels Soho Hotel in London, where we usually stay. From the moment we arrived, Dara at Reception was exceptional and the rooms were classy, spacious, and beautifully designed. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Tom Kitchin and Dominic Jack were behind the amazing food at this Gullane gem. The canapés, beef shin, Wellington, cheese, and Albariño were all superb, and our server Vera was outstanding. Breakfast the next morning, overseen by Georgia, was excellent as well. The restaurant was full on a Monday night in mid March, which was incredible. We chatted with other diners, many of whom were locals who said they come twice a week because the food and value are so good. We often stop at the Cartford Inn on our way to London, and Bonnie Badger has a similar ambiance, so we will definitely be returning regularly. My partner, who is a keen golfer, is already planning to book a stay, and we can't wait to bring our dog along as the Bonnie Badger is very dog-friendly. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to discerning travelers, golfers, epicureans, and anyone else. It's a 10/10 in my book, and we have already booked our return visit in a few weeks.
Visited The Bonny Badger for lunch with some friends and was not disappointed. Really nice lunch with excellent service from staff in a comfortable, homely environment.
Just popped in for a coffee with my sister when we were in Gullane for the day. Think people have been very unlucky as in the short time we were there the 4 staff we were in contact with couldn’t have been more pleasant and welcoming. Just sorry the bad reviews put us off going for dinner the night before. Will definitely return! P.S. coffee was great!
