The food tasted like ranty oil. I couldn't taste the mushes. the day after that, my love feels terrible. we spent $54 on this meal
I just noticed that I was the very first to review Holbrooks and have been a diehard fan for 13 years until now. We decided to save a few miles and go to Holbrooks in lieu of Erica's and it was a mistake. Today was my b-day and I wanted fried clams for my b-day. What I received at Holbrooks was inedible- little overcooked greasy beer battered clam donuts- just disgusting by any standard. There were maybe 6 customers on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Holbrooks should close to preserve their reputation. In my business, I lose money and break even so often to preserve my reputation and dignity, not just during a pandemic. Holbrooks needs to remember that there will be years after the pandemic. The paradox is that 2 weeks ago I took the boat down to Holbrooks on a Monday and they were closed, but the store was open and serving a few things from the restaurant next door, namely chicken fingers. Those chicken fingers were sublime, even though they had been under a heat lamp for at least 30 minutes. What this tells me is that Holbrooks can still prepare good food, but they are choosing not to. Go to Erica's. Holbrooks take the long view and learn from this. Definitely don't be like so many other Mainers and blame Gov. Mills or the unemployment benefits. Mainers are better than that and more resourceful.
A good quality, no frills lobster roll. Cole slaw decent as well. Potato salad side was meh. Must do: grab a picnic table and sit on the dock, overlooking lobster boats in the beautiful harbor on a late summer sunny day. Eat happily there and be thankful for the beautiful day. Service is limited: wait in line to order at the counter and then your name will be called when the food is ready. BYOB.
How can you give them less than 4 stars? service was great, eating was very good and the intention was to die. the young ladies running the window were funny and very friendly. make sure to leave something extra in their drinking money. if I could, I'd be back in this week, but because I can't live in a country far away. the dampers and lobsters were only achsant.
