Another group who came on the same time with us were waiting for an hour as well Then we left and went into this cafe on our way to opera. Though their kitchen was closed after hearing our bad experience they let us in. we said we are OK with cold food Wonderful plates came in a few minutes. The owner who served us was very welcoming and nice. They rescued us and the town !
We went inside hoping for breakfast even though there was no indication on the board outside that they served anything other than coffee, tea and lunch. We were seated in a charming room at the front, given breakfast menus and were served with the most delicious derbyshire oatcakes, local bacon maple syrup. There was an extensive choice of proper leaf teas and everything on the counter and in the chiller looked fabulous. Great service from a very friendly lady who told us where we could buy the oatcakes and bacon so we could recreate the meal back in our holiday cottage. Lovely Georgian colonnaded building with views of the opera house and park.
The cafe was bustling with customers, so we suggest making a reservation. When we arrived at 11am, we were lucky to snag one of the last tables available (it seemed there was a wedding event happening upstairs, which may have limited walk-in availability). We ordered drinks and cakes, and were impressed by the wide selection. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and would definitely return.
We had a fantastic experience at No 6, with a delightful stay and delicious breakfast. The room was quirky and had a lovely view of the roof tops. It was spacious and comfortable, located in a stunning building just across from the Opera House. The breakfast options were excellent quality and we were warmly welcomed by all the staff at No 6.
The menu is simple, but getting a table without a reservation can be difficult. It's frustrating to see empty tables being reserved while customers are turned away because the restaurant is supposedly full. The staff can be unfriendly, especially towards non-locals who request anything extra. However, after trying three times, we finally got to dine here and the food was decent. The atmosphere and cafe were cold, which is something to keep in mind as winter approaches.
