She and her husband were also so understanding and very nice when we managed to sink our van at the side of their building when filling up with water, which took a local JCB driver to pull us out. Everybody was so nice they deserve to be visited by everyone visiting Smoo Cave (just 100 yards down the road), I can only thank them sincerely for their help.
We were looking for a place to get a bit to eat for lunch. Found this place and we only went in because we were hungry and thirsty. From the outside it looks like something you might picture being in a Stephen King horror novel. Don't think it has had any improvements or renevations since it was built and the inside was not any better. It was like stepping back I time to the 1960/70s. The food to ages to arrive and all we had ordered were sandwiches and got filled rolls. When it did arrive it was not worth the wait. During our time up this way this was only one of two places we did not return to.
We staid here for one night. The owner Mairi Clarke was a great host. She's a very unique person, I understand why some wrote here she doesn't say a lot. But that's I think due to the fact that she can't hear as good anymore just speak a bit louder and she'll help you with everything. Not a 5* establishment, but very cosy and unique a place and a host like right from a Wes Anderson movie
Great cup of tea. Very nice brownies! Probably not a lot of choice but it was outside and the door was open.
We pulled in to this cafe whilst covering the NC500 recently on our motorbikes. We were cold and needed a hot cup of tea. Stepping back into the 1970s, this cafe provided a hot cup of tea but little else. The lady running the cafe spent the whole time in another room with other people through a door marked ‘private’, and we didn’t see her once she had served us. The refreshments available consisted of a few pieces of cake and half a dozen different biscuit bars from multipacks. The tea was good however and the toilet worked.
