The omelettes were very large for 3 eggs. The hashbrowns were actually shredded potatoes andnot mini cube cut. The French toast is extra large but not thick, just large and sweet even without any additional sauces. Thepasties are like hand held pot pies, really filling without anything else
We had breakfast at Suomis, while on vacation in Houghton. Parking could be a problem but we didn't mind a little walk. If you have accessibility needs, it could be difficult to access the entrance as it sits on a rather steep hill, so you may want tocheck that out of that's a concern for you. Service was fast and friendly despite it being rather busy. The waitress wasattentive and the food was good, down home, large portions. I thought the prices were excellent.
Fantastic food! The pannukkaku is a must-try—so rich and creamy. We also decided to pick up some pasties, as locals rave about them being the best around. We took those delicious frozen treats home. It’s definitely worth the wait to dine here! Update: We cooked the pasties the next day and they were honestly the best I've ever had. The flaky pastry is absolutely divine. Pure perfection!
I've always enjoyed dining at Soumi. They have the friendliest and happiest waiting staff in the Copper Country. However, the food leaves much to be desired, so we typically take our guests elsewhere.
We had a pleasant breakfast at Suomi, where we sampled their signature Finnish pancakes. They definitely have a unique flavor that might take some getting used to; the texture and consistency could be off-putting for some, as the custard-like center is quite soft. However, the toppings were fantastic. We found the sausage gravy to be a bit bland, though. On the positive side, the service was excellent, and the prices were quite reasonable. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere. We arrived around 8 AM and didn’t have to wait long, but by the time we finished our meal, a line was starting to form.
