We were told they did not serve wine by the glass but later learned from the head waiter we could order wine by the glass. Prawn Pad Thai had no flavor, Miso Soup was like drinking the ocean and too salty, and the chicken satay was actually cold. Understaffed and did not even ask us how it was after they served us. Upon clearing our main couse, with lots of food left along with a whole bowl of soup, not one comment asking if we liked it. I guess you can chalk that up to being understaffed still. The star of the evening was the pork buns, spring rolls, and dim sum. Delicious. Beautiful atmosphere.
Portrays itself as a Thai restaurant w/ outside posted menu. The 2 items we came for were no longer on actual menu. No curry dishes. Appetizer was a cold chicken nugget with a few Veggies and sauce on top. We wanted hot sake and had to buy a bottle which was fine. We had to ask several times to get heated carafe of sake delivered to table. We had nothing the first 1/2 hr. Chicken sate with a peanut sauce was above average. Waitress didn’t understand English and was not prepared to serve at the restaurant. Worst meal and service we had on the island. Save your money!!!! The atmosphere with its special lighting was the best part of restaurant.
Service was good. Wine selection was limited with no USA wines. Few wines by the glass. We did not like our sushi or tuna roll. The rice was “sweet”, not the traditional sticky rice. Sorry.
At Satay there is so much to like, BUT they found way to make a good meal unsatisfying. It's a beautiful facility. The waitstaff offered decent service. The food was really good. But with a clientele of mostly older tourists, they blasted the music like it was a rave. We asked for the volume to be turned down. No action. Again we asked. The waiter informed me that he tried, but the manager refused. We could barely talk at the table, and were glad to finish and leave. Not the outcome any half-baked manager would want for a restaurant that needs a better reputation. Satay is on the list of poorly managed restaurants. Find a better option in Isla Mujeres.
Large, varied menu that has something for all people who like Thai and Japanese style food. Staff will gladly explain a dish if you ask!!
