I love mornings when bacon is piled up and waiting for you. U can 't take breakfast out of the caf- or people would load up with those cinnamon rolls and bacon. I like the soups. I wish there was sushi. But I do like the global cuisine. I never have the home cooking like chicken and potatoes. And I don 't eat the tilapia. But I like the cookies and cake and salads and occasionally I make a panini. I would like it if they had more pies. Like pea can and apple and pumpkin pie regularly. The fries are good.
Is it inconsistent? Sure. I've had great caf days and awful caf days. It seems that a ton of the opinions I hear about this place are from people who have never gone to another universities cafeteria. Most I've been to are nowhere near Biola's caf. People should seriously appreciate this place more.
The low ratings on this page are crazy. The Caf is very, VERY good. I was a student here for 4 years and ate here morning noon and night. I live in the area and whenever I get the chance, I LOVE coming back to the caf to eat. But don't take it from me, here are some hard facts as to why the caf at Biola is actually top notch. The caf is managed and run by a company called Bon Appétit. This company runs top notch cafeterias for big corporate campuses like Twitter, Google, LinkedIn, Starbucks, Nordstrom. They also run cafeterias for large schools like University of Chicago, University of San Francisco, and University of Pennsylvania. Please don't take my word for it though, take a look: So please. All you students who are giving this place 1 and 2 stars. Just... don't. This place is great, and it can factually be said that this place produces good food, not just here, but many, many other places as well. (Climbs off soap box)
Real talk, this place is great. The reviews here are insane! I've been at Biola for 10 years (undergrad, grad, employee , and I've eaten at the Biola Caf almost every weekday during that time. When I first came to Biola in 2010 I would have given the Caf 5 stars, but in these 10 years I've seen it Caf steadily improve in service and food quality! The folks here really care about what they do and they want to serve the Biola community well. I'm sad to see some of the complaints about cost. The Caf is a fully serviced buffet with 7 food stations and a fully stocked salad bar and grain gallery with desert options. You won't find that for less than $10 anywhere in Southern California, and it's even cheaper for students with a meal plan. And the food is GOOD. They have organics, gluten free options, and multiple made to order options with every meal. (I can't help but wonder if most negative reviews here are students who have never had to buy their own food before? Food isn't cheap! And if you spend $8 to only come in for lunch and get yourself a bowl of cereal or some pizza, then yeah, you probably should spend your money elsewhere Like Biola's Eagle's Nest! . I'd keep writing, but I'm starting to get hungry and I see that the Caf is serving Coconut Chicken Curry today, so I'm going to get off Yelp and go snag the best lunch deal in town!
The Café at Biola University is a rip-off for the money they charge for tuition and the meal plans. The ingredients are subpar and the food is often undercooked or overcooked, causing health issues among a variety of students. Each selection of hot food is drowned in vegetable oil, a product commonly known to be inflammatory and bad for your gut health. Students at Biola University need whole foods, made with high quality ingredients that promote our physical and mental health. Food fuels the brain and bad food is not helping our ability to do well in school. Individuals with dietary preferences are not catered to well at all and there is a significant amount of cross contamination. The pork has caused sickness, the rice is often hard and undercooked, and there is too much fried and unhealthy food. Likely, the reason for this is because fried food is cheap and easy to produce, along with low quality meat. Biola 's Café staff are excellent, but the food is horrific and a waste of the good money spent on a good education.
