The accommodations on the trails are really beautiful and Irish charm gives the perfect holiday. If you're a good horse It's easy to go without a guide.
This place is magical for the experienced driver. Accommodation is great and hospitality is fantastic. The landscape stands and the horses are well maintained and perfect for the experience
We had a wonderful time on our 7-day journey to the Donegal West Trails, 30. May 2019. Staff at the Horse Holiday Farm are simply fantastic, the stables are great and the horses were spectacular. We drove under all conditions and these 8 horses took care of us all well. I can't expect to drive again in the future! Thank you for the wonderful experience and memories of a life!
Beautiful long beach with fast horses. What do you want? The horses are in best conditions and the stable is very well maintained. The guys on the horse farm have a good hand for the right horse.
To celebrate my sister 's graduation, the two of us decided to fulfil a common dream and go on horseback riding vacation together. Called by the country 's charme and convinced by their offers and a lot of positive reviews, we decided to do so at the Horse Holiday Farm in Sligo, Ireland. We booked the Donegal Trail West tour and started our week long adventure at the beginning of August 2018. Our experience differed a little from our expectations and some of the other reviews. Don 't get me wrong: overall, we had a great time, but there some (negative? points worth mentioning as well to give a realistic (still subjective review of our trip. In the following, I 'll support my statement and rating with some key points. The Horse Holiday Farm staff is very helpful and nice. We felt welcome and taken care of. The trip is well organised and the route is well signposted (we still managed to get lost on the last 10km, but that was definitely our bad :D . The B&B 's were amazing all of them. Great accommodations/locations, very hospitable people and comfy beds, as well as good (vegetarian food! The horses are great: lively, well trained, reliable partners. My sister and I were a little afraid to get blunt ponies before our arrival, but quite the contrary! We were very pleased with Fiddler and Shanlara . The route was diverse and pleasing (with a few little exceptions, read below . The opportunity to do an unguided trail is quite unique; just what we were looking for! Most of the time you ride on sealed roads. Most of them are little used and quiet, so it 's not a problem, but a little different from the description on the internet/our expectations. Some parts lead you along very busy motorways with a speedlimit of 100km/h. A NIGHTMARE, without exaggeration! In Germany, you would not even be allowed to walk on these streets I think. There were some very, very dangerous situations; for us and the horses. My horse spooked a couple of times (I really can 't blame him for example (to be fair, my sister 's horse was more relaxed about it, but also got pretty nervous in between and some of the drivers ' are quite reckless. Definitely need a good guardian angel! There is probably no other option, but this is probably the point that disturbed me the most. Tilmann seems to be a good business man. I sometimes got the feeling that profit is most important. The horses are taken care of well in general and it 's mostly not too obvious, but I wished some situations would have been handled differently. I was quite surprised for example, that noone actually checks the level of the riders. We got asked about it and the first day, but that was it. The first day might count as kind of a try out, but personally, I would want to convince myself of a proper riding level before I 'd give my horse to a stranger for the week. Also, the horse of one of our fellow riders, had to go the trail twice in a row, without a break for example. This is not the standard though as I understand . (Almost every night you have dinner at the B&B, there are no other options (fair enough . The reason this makes my negative list is the price. You have to pay 20€/person every day. To be honest, the hosts served delicious food and put a lot of effort in it, so you can argue about the price performance ratio, but this was not mentioned before. My sister and I barely had enough cash with us, I 'd appreciated at least a warning . The last point leads to my final conclusion. I feel like some things could have been clarified more in advance and handled slightly different to not create unrealistic expectations. With better communication (and a solution for the highway part! the trip and the farm would deserve a 4/5 in my opinion. In general, my sister and I really enjoyed the trip and it was definitely a very unique holiday. Overall, I would recommend it; just be aware of the points above ;
