Portuguese food as expected from a local restaurant. Good service, good food and drinks, adjacent to one of the tourist spots.
We come to Lisbon for week 's holiday every year and eat at 'Matey Boy 's restaurant most nights. It 's cheap, with good food and wine; I also have no problem with their 'bread, cheese and sardine paste for a 'few Euros more '. We even got a few smiles out of Mr Grumpy, as we also make a point of tipping him when paying the bill.
Horrible service. Waiter came with cutlery (forks and knives) then came back with bread, butter, cheese, cream cheese and other accoutrements. He asked if we wanted bread but did not inform us that the bread, cheese etc were each a separate charge. It is ok, I had seen the prices in the menu, but his approach was deceiving, so I sent him back with his cheese (it was gross and likely had been sitting on tables outdoors several times passing from customer to customer), he still charged for the sardines and the garlic butter even though we didn’t touch them. And he also tried to take away the cutlery, so I am not sure how he was expecting us to eat the butter with the bread. We then asked for the soup of the day, and asked to be brought some lemon slices and hot sauce, server came back with the soups but no lemon or sauce, we reminded him, then he brought the lemon, yet he never brought any hot sauce. We finished and asked for the bill and let him know we were in a rush, he still insisted to try to sell us something else, “dessert” etc. Server was not local (so maybe a cultural thing) his behaviour was pushy, and deceiving. They also have no credit card (cash only), and he kept our bill
Visited for lunch. Asked, in Portuguese, for bread with butter. Received bread, butter, cheese spread, and sliced cheese. Note I did not ask for any but butter. When the bill came, it included 3.5 euros for each cheese and spread, adding 7 euros to the bill. I do not appreciate getting taken.
