Mariachi players are often there and are happy to play some lovely melodies for a tip. there are both exterior and interior tables, and it is common to see people who wait 45 minutes for a table. the employees are all efficient - there are only a lot of customers waiting. the food is always delicious and definitiw worth visiting!
This family café and cantina, founded in 1924, which was the first Mexican restaurant in los angeles, serves a series of timeless, authentic Mexican dishes ranging from tacos to margaritas. the crunchy tortilla chips and medium salsa verde are delicious, as well as the juicy chicken enchiladas with mild salsa verde, which are supplemented by fried beans and zesty Spanish rice. the personal is helpful and the building itself is noticeably historical; it even has a kamin! I recommend la golondrina at the next visit of olvera street.
This is still one of my favorite spots in the Mission. Prices are great and the freshness cannot be beat. I'm a big quesadilla fan and I have dreams of the prawn one sometimes add steak to the mix. The new ish system of printing out tickets is a little disconcerting I used to love walking down the line as the plate was assembled, but I suppose this is more efficient. Good early, good late.
Location is the best part of this Mexican cantina. Prices are expensive for a Mexican restaurant. Portions are big, with great flavors. Over $10 for a Margarita and around $15 a plate but you will end taking food home. The area is great for shopping Mexican items. Guacamole is delicious, but our order had big chunks of avocado which I would normally prefer smashed.
The staff is awesome! The food was delicious ! Got 3 tacos, shrimp al mojo, Pollo de mole, and carnitas with beans. I wasn't expecting them to be so filling I couldn't eat them all. I gave it 4 stars because we got sat outside on a hot day and there was hardly a breeze. Other than that have to go back. My micheladas were awesome as well
