We had seen good reviews for the food but weren't sure about the three words menu descriptions on the website. We assumed that the menu in the restaurant might actually have a little bit more information but that is not a problem if the serving staff are happy to explain. Although I am not sure why it is done like that. I was made to feel quite uncomfortable asking about the courses and in fact we were told we would be left for several minutes to decide which ones we might want to have more information on. Not acceptable. I did receive more help with the dessert menu as I went through each option and then had to remember which one was the mousse or brûlée or brownie as this information was not there. The food was very nice, we had Duck, Fig, Blackberry and my husband really enjoyed Milk, Honey, Banana.
I had high expectations after reading the few reviews of this pub/restaurant I wasn't disappointed. My wife I thoroughly enjoyed both the presentation eating of our starters mains so good we didn't share with each other as we were too busy enjoying every bite! Result: Our expectations were exceeded. The 3 front of house staff were lovely attentive however there were some long delays between visits to the table the restaurant wasn't overly full so that was our only minor complaint. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends, family business colleagues have already booked again for my wife's birthday with friends... we are drooling with anticipation!
The food was a triumph, excellent presentation, very generous portion sizes and certainly represented excellent value for money. The quality of the ingredients was fantastic and the chef Craig Burrows is very talented. Highly recommend the duck with blackberries and figs. It would be good to see a few of the better wines available by the glass but the meal overall was fabulous.
The new chef at The Pinkneys Arms has been either very clever or a little silly..... The menu is written in an abbreviated way, just giving sole words with no and or description. This causes the customer to engage with the waiter/waitress to discover the truth about your order i.e. Mushroom, squash, ....this was rissoto and duck, blackberry, was duck breast with blackberrys, beans and potato. A interesting twist to a normal menu but could also be very annoying in a larger group especially those from an older school. A lovely meal and pleasant staff.
