A lovely Essex pub with several cosy rooms with rustic tables and chairs in the bar rather than one large characterless room. The walls have plenty of photos from the nearby WW1 airfield to keep the inquisitive occupied. The menu is a typical pub grub menu all reasonably priced and served quite quickly. The draught beers on offer did not include the usual choice of national ales and lagers, instead a number of local brews were offered. My choice of Georges Olde Southendian Dark Bitter 4.1% was very tasty. Certainly on the list for a return visit together with a visit to the nearby historic airfield and museum.
You can buy a good pint of beer in this place as well as some good freshly cooked food all for a very reasonable price.
An excellent country pub with fine selection of real ale and good pub food. Strongly recommend the wide selection of real pies, no stews with just a puff pastry crust dropped on here! We stopped here and took a walk out the back past the old WW1 aerodrome.
Arrived to meet friends for lunch on Sunday. First thing that greeted us was the overwhelming stench of BO. The bar area was like some unwelcoming club that clearly didn’t want new members, barely parting to allow us to order a drink. Furniture looks like it has come from a school closing-down sale. After a while the smell drove us off we left to meet friends elsewhere.
