We went to Piara for lunch, at the Mercado del Rio mall (a dedicated food strip mall next to Bancolombia's headquarters), you can get there easily by bus, metro or cycle. Piara's focus is BBQ, they offer several options and combos, we ordered Combo Costilla...(Combo spare ribs) and Combo Picadita (Combo short ribs), they include sides but not drinks. Ribs are really good made, tender and loose to the fork or eat them with a glove, the BBQ sauce is well balanced, not spicy, not overly vinegary, we ordered the spare ribs with a dark beer and rosemary sauce, also, very well balanced, you can tell the differences and enjoy them. They come with rustic fries, well done, fried arepas (with meat), guac (not good at all, all lemon, no avocado) and cole slaw (not good either, very acidic, not balanced). I'll say go with the ribs and fries. They don't carry coke products. Location is nice to come with friends and enjoy food and beers, not a good place with kids. Prices are kind of high compared to the average, Combo costilla is about Combo Picadita sodas they take credit and there are ATMs nearby.
Three medallions in smoked pineapple sauce with rustic potatoes and Cole slaw plus two beers and extra BBQ sauce was A nice lunch, flavorful and tasty. A young crowding a clean setting with friendly counter service. Great people watching too! I will be back.
My girlfriend, her mother and I visited this restaurant on a Sunday in November, 2016. This is a B-B-Q restaurant located in the newly opened Mercado del Rio. Mercado del Rio is a building with many small restaurants covering just about any type of food you can imagine. On a Sunday it was very busy but we enjoyed walking around and checking out the more than a dozen restaurants under one roof.At one point we split up because we wanted different things. Later my girlfriend told me she and her mother stopped at a restaurant that serves paella but she told me she had Chinese rice.At Piara I had what seemed to me to be hickory smoked ribs. There were 5 of them on a plate covered with a nice BBQ sauce. It also comes with coleslaw and French fries with your choice of sauce – I had mine with plain ole ketchup. Add a Pepsi and my total came to 29,500 pesos (about $10). At the time of this review (November, 2016) there were 3,060 Colombian Pesos to the US Dollar.
