This place unfortunately has not been consistent. When it opened the food/service was really good but the last 2 times the steak was INEDIBLE and the service was so bad I had to ask if we actually had a server after 20 minutes drinking water. I got my 1 cup of coffee 10 minutes later then never filled again till after received the meal...much...much later. Waiter was one of those that are doing YOU a favor. My wife said her Halibut was good enough to come back so maybe I am ordering wrong here, I for sure will NEVER order another steak. I would not recommend until I hear better things...
My personal favorite of all restaurants here in the rogue valley. starting with the fact that they are in a rebuilt former railway station. the atmosphere quickly gives itself to a special culinary experience. from juicy mixed drinks to the finest aged steaks everything is chased by a friendly staff on their table. yes, they pay a little more here, but it doesn't matter to pamper me and the woman occasionally, and it's great to have even a restaurant of this quality in our community. eleven in ten scaling, always. I encourage the people to support this wonderful place because I have lived in common without a top animal establishment (like roseburg) and they only wish had a place as beautiful as to go.
We stopped on a Sunday night without reservation, the staff was very friendly and found space for us. really funny atmosphere, earlier a railway station, now with great decorations and comfortable sitting. the wine list was impressive; we were happy to find good California red (especially turley and eating were excellent. we shared the risotto and chicken marsala. both were excellent, and very expensive. aaron, our server, was attentive and knowledgeable and pleasant to work. overall this was a great stop on the way to highway 5, and we will eat there again!
First I will refer them to my august 12, 2019 review of this same restaurant. I have been there several times since this last review, but the feeling that the experience of the last night there demands my additional comments. we had an unwanted waiter yesterday. he was often rude and restless, but had some moments to be polite. everyone on the table (7 of us) noticed his behavior. I will not go to all the specialties, but will begin with the first snippy answer he was made when my wife asked if she had her lobster ravioli (they were out of her last time we were there.) he reacted that it was on the menu and his ton speech was in worse position. my wife then mentioned that they were out of her last time we were there and this waiter replied with some commentary about dinge, which did not constant in the university his ton again spoke volume. almost everyone on our table had a similar kind of rude attitude experience with him. He said at a point that he had done this for 30 years. I suppose he said he was a waiter for 30 years. I can only imagine that he must have worked at least 30 restaurants this time because I don't see a restaurant that keeps him on the staff over a year. Porters remains one of my favorite restaurants in medford, and as soon as I think enough time has gone for this waiter to have moved on, I will return. the rest of the staff was very professional and polite. the food was excellent. the kitchen staff of porters has never disappointed. I suspect that anyone who works on porters and reads that will know who I am referring to. I cannot imagine that I am the first person to refer to the behavior of the waiter. my final comment is the automatic addition of the gratuity that is common for groups of our size in restaurants. I would certainly not have given this waiter 20%, and I am a very nice tipper. I think a smaller (10% or 15 basic automatic tip would be better suited to allow me to add extra tip if justified. again thanks to and nice work on all the workers in porters, except the waiter we had. Note that this is not a negative assessment of porter, only from a certain waiter they use.
