17 West Cafe - Monroe

17 West Café was a surprise for me. Location in downtown Monroe I had not expected to find such a well maintained place that focuses on good food and music. I enjoyed the decor of the place as soon as I came in. It is pleasantly colored and the lighting is provided to a great extent by the natural light that pours into the place from the front and side windows. If it is important for you to observe pedestrians and car traffic, it is easy and fun to do at each of the tables near the windows. There is a good view from everywhere in the restaurant. As far as the interior is concerned, it is freely accompanied by paintings by a local artist who present various musicians with their instruments and some of them. A final comment on the design of the place – I know people in construction and architecture that would go into this restaurant to see the tin ceilings. They are in excellent condition, have first rate installation and are painted in a luxurious and rich gold from flat red walls. Exceptional! Take my word for it. The food is great. It is well done, fresh, hot and tasty. I enjoyed a short plated ribs, grilled beans baked (with some kind of chili meat – Yowers! and greens. I could have used some vinegar and/or hot sauce – and they had it – but I wait to add the next time. What I had was enough and I wasn't for sensory overload. The presentation is something unique – I have received my meal in a polyfoam box with plastic utensils – but whatever. It was a great place to eat lunch and I'll be back for dinner. Will you be there early or flexible because they sometimes run out of the stuff (WHAT)? No maize bread! It wasn't that bad when corn bread went out, but I could hear the obvious disappointment in the voice of another diner when they ran out of green beans. No green beans? It was okay. I know better now and I'll get my order early. They are great to eat again in the office, at home or on the sweet streets of downtown Monroe, Michigan.

Delicious! Maize on the Cob, crab legs, shrimps and potatoes covered in a phenomenal butter Cajun sauce! In the food heaven! Very recommended!

Cuban Sandwich is very good, I could not miss it every day on big sandwiches and food
