American-style pizza with Italian roots! The wood-fired ovens really make a difference. The service is excellent as well.
Frustrating that they close so early. they claim to be open until 7:30 a.m., but when they call, they learn that they close the kitchen at 7:00 a.m. her italiano sandwich is good.
Best pizza in montclair! the Napoli Pie is amazing, but can't do anything wrong.
I stopped by for a quick lunch yesterday on an unexpectedly warm February afternoon. It was around 12:45 PM and the place was completely empty. To be fair, they only had one table open for dine-in, so it's possible that takeout orders were bustling. I ordered two slices of margarita pizza to eat in, which were reheated and ready within a minute or so. The service was pretty decent in that respect. However, the pizza itself was not good at all. I’ve attached a picture of what looked like an appetizing slice, but you could tell that the cheese was hard and rubbery at the top. Both slices were disappointingly greasy (I had to blot them with a napkin) and dry, likely due to the reheating. Have I had worse slices? Yes, but it’s rare. Additionally, there were a few aspects of my experience that rubbed me the wrong way. I understand Montclair has a COVID mask mandate for all businesses. I'm indifferent about masks; I’ll wear one if required, but otherwise, I don’t. I generally don’t get upset about how businesses handle COVID matters, but as I approached Da Vinci's, I noticed not one, but three signs indicating that masks were mandatory. I complied and put my mask on before entering, but upon stepping inside, none of the employees were wearing masks, not even as chin straps. This contradiction seemed hypocritical given the numerous signs posted. Another issue was the negativity coming from the guy at the counter. He was friendly to me, but during the 90 seconds I spent waiting for my slices, he managed to belittle a carryout customer's chicken parm order (rolling his eyes and commenting on the customer's preference for no actual sauce) and criticize the kids he expected to come in later that afternoon after school, claiming they were the reason most tables were unavailable for dining in because they didn’t know how to respect social distancing. While both criticisms have merit, it’s not a good look to speak poorly of your customers in front of others. I’m genuinely puzzled as to how this place stays open with so much competition nearby. So, the next time I crave pizza, I’ll be looking elsewhere.
