To be honest, this is the only coffee shop I go to now because it is very clean and welcoming. They have indoor and outdoor seating options. The owner is very kind and treats all customers well, many of whom are regulars. The breakfast is quick and delicious, but the standout is the homemade Korean cuisine. Some Korean friends of mine say it's the best in town! Just make sure to ask for the menu. They also offer fresh baked goods, which are a nice touch. Plus, they have homemade Kimchi that you can purchase to take home. Overall, a great spot!
This charming café in downtown Nanaimo has a laid-back vibe. Unfortunately, during my last visit for lunch, the service was lackluster and many menu options were unavailable. The owners' level of service left something to be desired.
I made Haz Beans my go-to spot for affordable and satisfying breakfast last year. The bustling atmosphere and consistent quality seemed to be a common experience for many patrons in the morning. While the breakfast may have been nothing extraordinary, it was a reliable 3-star experience. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that their authentic Korean food for lunch and dinner was outstanding! Not typically one to order soup, I decided to try the seolleontang, a beef bone soup ($12). It came with a side of rice, Korean fish cake, sesame roasted potatoes, and homemade Kimchi. Although I am somewhat familiar with Kimchi from making my own versions, this one was exceptional. The soup was traditionally served with rice and a variety of spices that complemented the creamy off-white broth filled with tender pieces of beef and perhaps some beef cartilage. While the cartilage may not be to everyone's taste, I found it to be a delightful addition to the dish. The rest of the Korean menu also looked very authentic, and I am excited to explore more options in the coming months. This restaurant is truly a gem in Nanaimo for those seeking genuine Korean cuisine. The generous portions, along with the friendly and attentive service, make it a must-try in the area. I highly recommend Haz Beans to anyone looking for a taste of authentic Korean cooking.
It may not be the fanciest place in town but the food and hospitality are great. The prices are reasonable too. I have no problem recommending this restaurant.
